Sugar mix, also known as candy propellant is a popular fuel in amateur rocketry, great for beginners because of the availability of the ingredients. It is comprised of Pottasium nitrate ( saltpetre, KNO3 ) and Sugar ( basic powdered sugar ). It basically works like this: the saltpetre provides the oxygen, and the Sugar the fuel.
It can be mixed in 3 ways, dry mixing is the safest and the easiest to make, it basically is mixing the Sugar and Saltpetre in the right ratio.
The ratio is ( by weight )
65% Pottasium nitrate ( saltpetre, KNO3 )
35% Sugar
There is also the mixing by melting. It uses the same ratio as previously mentioned.
Instructions coming within this week
And there is the wet mixing, which creates powdered candy propellant, which is creates a propellant as powerful as the melting, but without the risk.
Instructions coming within this week, i am also going to upload pictures
Black powder, gunpowder
Black powder is a chemical compound, a mixture of three basic components: charcoal, sulfur and Saltpetre ( pottasium nitrate KNO3 ) in the right ratio of course.
Black powder is the basic propellant/explosive used in fireworks, and you might call it the backbone of all fireworks
Alright, if you want to make black powder, you need to get the three components:
Charcoal - well you can easily get charcoal, that is no problem ( in diy shops, etc. )
Sulfur - you can get it at some hobby stores, chemistry supply stores, and also sulfur is used as a fertilizer, so you can get it in garden supply stores and farm supply stores, basically in any shop that sells fertilizers
Saltpetre, pottasium nitrate ( KNO3 ) - used as a fertilizer - available in garden supply stores, also in farm supply stores etc.
So, you got your 3 ingredients and you are ready to make some powder
Black powder needs to be mixed in a right ratio, it is:
By weight ( you'll need to have a scale for this )
75% Potassium nitrate
15% Charcoal
10% Sulfur

Potassium nitrate
Chemical formula: KNO3
Also known as: Saltpetre, Saltpeter, Nitrate of potash
Potassium nitrate is the most widely used oxidizer in pyrotechnics. It is used for a whole range of pyrotechnics, the most important one being the manufacture of black powder. Potassium nitrate is a white powder or long crystals ( like needles ).
Where can i get it? ( sources ):
Potassium nitrate is commonly used as a fertilizer, and can be bought cheaply in garden supply stores, or farm stores ( basically in any shop that sells fertilizers )
